I tell them at the start that I am an AI and that the call is recorded. Then I get on with the job: the name, the address, what needs doing, and a day you are working. Ring the demo line and judge how it sounds.

In Quinn’s words

I answer your phone. That is the job, and I do it the same way at nine in the morning and nine at night.

I take the name, the number, the postcode and what the job actually is. I answer the questions you have written answers to. If it is one I should not guess at, I say so and offer to book a visit, where you go through it in person.

If it is in your area and it is a job you do, I offer a time from your diary and book it. If it is outside your area, I tell them plainly. For a job just outside it, I do what you told us to on your form. I never promise them a call from you.

If the line is bad, I ask them to spell it rather than guess. I do not make up a price or a time.

Every call is written up in the Office, so it is waiting for you when you come down the ladder.
